A new feature on the NMR lab web page allows opening a Unix desktop through your web browser. Besides having Java installed and enabled on your Browser, no additional software is necessary.
Link: http://hal.chem.uwm.edu/nmr/local/vnc1.php
That gives you full access to XWinNMR and/or XWinplot from any computer with an internet connection.
For security reasons, there are several layers of login required:
- Login to the web page, using either UWM ID or local NMR lab account, to get to the link above.
- After you select a connection, you establish a secure connection to the server using your local login - if you don't have one, it will be the generic nmr account. That will get you the unix login screen
- Finally login to the Unix desktop
Users,
Part of the UWM e-mail system (Pantherlink) went down today. Those effected will not be able to use their UWM ID to log into the NMRlab Instrument
reservation System. If you have a local account on hal (like most DRX-500 users), you should be able to use that to access the system
.
